Responsible Gaming Committee

In its amended form as from 2008, the Responsible Gaming Committee meets at regular intervals at the head office of the National Lottery. In accordance with the letter and the spirit of the Management Contract entered into by the National Lottery and the Belgian State, the Committee issues impartial advice about the wide-ranging issue of responsible gaming.

The Responsible Gaming Committee consists of six people: three members of staff of the National Lottery and three external members. The latter are psychologists or psychiatrists, experts in the field of gambling addiction.

They hold an independent position, but nevertheless collaborate closely with the three ‘in-house members’ from the National Lottery.

The Responsible Gaming Committee draws up guidelines that must be applied in the light of the National Lottery’s responsible gaming policy. Such guidelines deal mainly with the prevention of gambling addiction, strict compliance with the rule that the games of the National Lottery are absolutely prohibited for players under 18 years of age, the introduction of a responsible marketing policy, the training of National Lottery employees and points of sale, and finally, the dissemination of relevant information about gambling addiction and its treatment.

With the support and expertise of the Responsible Gaming Committee, the National Lottery also guarantees compliance with the European standards on responsible gaming. In that context, the ‘Responsible Gaming’ certificate awarded to the National Lottery in 2010 by European Lotteries remains a fundamental priority.
